Annette wanted to do her hair. Esther didn't properly know how to react to that. She wasn't going to be the one who told Annette no though. So she let the kid brush her hair, and attempt to braid it. Annette didn't do a very good job braiding her hair. Annette just sort of gave up, but Esther didn't have it in her to take her hair down because she didn't want Annette to think that she didn't like it. She wore the crudely done singular braid all around the house even when it practically fell apart. God was she nervous for Everette to see her hair. It was a change from her normal hair, but she didn't know if it was a good one.

Everett walked into the door of the shop with a chime as the large glass door ran into a few bells. He smiled at his grandfather who was standing at the desk helping a possible customer, and headed upstairs with small knots in his stomach.
He had barely stepped into their home when he saw her with her hair loosely tied back in a braid. The pieces that had fallen out of the uneven braid fell around her face gently, and made his heart hurt just a little bit. She was so pretty without the mess that had covered her face all of the time.
"I-I like your hair.."

Esther thought it was sweet of him to have even said anything.
"You really mean it?" She looked at him shyly through her lashes, "I mean thanks, and Annette did it. It's a bit of a mess. It matches me."
She didn't mean to let that last bit slip, but she found that he was incredibly easy to talk too. She considered it a bit dangerous if she was being honest -his ability to get her to talk that is- not the fact that she thought he was good looking, or sweet, or considerate.

"Then you're the prettiest mess I've ever seen." Everett said honestly.
Shit. He didn't mean to say that, but the words bypassed the careful filter he had been working to strengthen. His face turned a dull shade of pink as he smiled slightly. The knots in his stomach twisted, he didn't expect saying something like that to be as natural as it was.

Esther looked at him confused by a moment. He willingly divulged that information.
She figured she should return the favor, "You're too sweet," She replied, pushing a dark strand of hair behind her ear, "but if you want me to like you, you didn't have to feed me sweet nothings. I quite like you as you are."
She wasn't bashful about it like he had been. She knew it was a back handed compliment, but she also knew that all the pretty words in the world couldn't fix certain breeds of people. With all the things she had seen she knew that a couple pretty words couldn't fix her. She was of that breed.

Everett could have melted into the floor, either of embarrassment or something else. He couldn't tell whether he had upset her, and such a thing killed him inside. A small smile formed at his lips as his internal voice screamed at him for possibly upsetting her. He switched his gaze to the floor as he turned a darker shade of pink and cleared his throat. He pulled down his shirt and attempted to regain his slightly composed usual countenance before speaking again. "Have you seen Harvey around?"

"Harvey is upstairs with Annette I do believe. Be careful though because they've been quiet the whole day. For all I know they have been plotting our deaths." She wiggled her fingers menacingly at Everette. She was attempting to steal a smile from him. It didn't work. She had made him upset, and it stirred something inside her that didn't settle well within her stomach. She detested the new feeling.
"I'll walk you upstairs." She left no room for argument.
They made their way to the stairs. She motioned for him to go up first with a single movement of her hand. She lined her chair up with the tracks Grandpa Finley had attached to the wall so that she could easily get up, and down the stairs. She clicked the chair into place, and rolled herself up the stairs. "Have fun at your classes today?"

"To be honest, I wasn't fully paying attention," He said, climbing the stairs at a steady pace as to not go too far ahead or too slow for Esther. He looked back at her a few times to make sure she was okay, which Everett noticed had started to annoy her, or at least he thought it had. He stopped at the top of he stairs once she had made it properly up, and breathed in before quietly speaking, "I'm sorry if I upset you."
He would have dissapated if he could, but seeing as the laws of science forbade that, he could not. He wasn't sure if he had completely upset her, but he was not one to let things lie and spin out of control, especially when it was towards the people he could rely on. In reality, there was only a few people he had ever felt like he could trust in his life, two out of the six total had left his trust stamped in the dirt. Everett supposed there was nothing he could do about those though, and hadn't dwelled upon it too much, despite the fact that the two deaths had devistated him.
He wasn't quite prepared to lose another.

"Fuck it all." She said quite loudly. She was tired of dancing around it, and figured she was killing the poor kid. She was tired of him not knowing. She was tired of him thinking about how she couldn't possibly like him. She would give him something better to think about. He had constantly checked on her as she rolled up the stairs. She had thought that was sweet. Esther rolled closer to him, grabbed the poor wide-eyed kid by the tie with one hand, and yanked. He flew forward, but she was prepared. She steadied him by the hip considerably closer to her with the other hand. She left him there for a little bit. Close enough to taste her breath, and to see the blooming redness on her cheeks. Then she got impatient again, grabbed his face in both hands, and pulled him even closer. Lightly brushing his lips to hers. She looked up at him through her eyes. She wanted to truly know if kissing a cripple didn't disgust him. It didn't. She pulled him even closer to her. Lips against lips, and noses against cheeks. She couldn't have been more happy then that exact moment even if it was a sloppy, clumsy first kiss.

Everett's face had turned very, very pink as if he had been sitting in constant sun since he was young as they pulled apart. The fireworks he had felt when she touched him still bursted on his very shocked lips. He would never have expected a girl to destroy the barrier he had created around himself. He was certain his speedy heartbeat could be heard for miles away like cannomfire, seeing as it was one of the few things he could hear himself. The knots in his stomach had been twisted so tight bug were now strangely relaxed as if they had been satisfied.
He looked down at Esther, who was suprisingly a very similar shade of pink. She looked down, almost as if she was beginning to regret her actions. She opened her mouth to say something but was silenced by his hands on either side of her face and lips on hers.

She laced her fingers through his hair, and tugged on it gently. His hair was neat. Now it was incredibly messy, and sticking up in all different directions. She was proud that she had inticed this animal from him. She didn't want him to let her go but unfortunately all good things must come to an end. She heard a faint calling of her name from the other end of the hallway.
She pulled away from him ignoring his groan of protest, "There will be more of that later," she had happily declared poking him on the nose gently beaming at him from ear to ear. He tried to interrupt her, but all she did was sush him, "I promise. Now come here we can't present you to your siblings looking like this." She fixed his hair to the best of her ability like an overly large mother hen.

"Thanks." He said blushing only a little bit. He fixed his own shirt and smiled as a tiny voice could be heard again down the hall. He laughed at a whine from an even higher voice, that sounded as if it had been awakened from a deep sleep. "We should probably go check on the little monsters."

"That's a very good plan." She commented quietly. She rolled ahead of him careful of his toes. He was awfully quiet and she was afraid she had scared him away. She was scared he would regret it, and look at her like a common whore. She had done something highly improper, and she didn't have it in her to care what anyone thought. The only exception to that was her new family. She wanted them to like her even though she had made mistakes, and is destined to make even more.

Everett was afraid that if he attempted to speak, he'd say something he would regret undeniably. He was usually quiet, only speaking if completely necessary, or to make small talk, which didn't seem to help with her. She was a mystery to Everett, and he wanted, no needed to know more.
He opened the door where the small squeaks were coming from and found a little Annette with a paper crane Everett had at one point made and a Harvey who seemed very upset that a pigtailed girl had woken him up at 3 in the afternoon. Everett laughed slightly at how honestly cute they were. He walked over to the tiny Harvey and picked him up, he relaxed in his older brothers arms.

She internally gushed at them. Harvey being the sweet little ball of hair that he is snuggled into his older brother and Esther practically melted into a gooey puddle on the floor. She loved it when they did this. It reminded her that there was always some good in the world. Annette was very enthralled by the bit of paper that Everette had made out of something within arms reach that had just been lying around. She remembered the story that an old friend had told her. That friend was long gone. He was like her. A freak. Someone killed him for it. He preferred men, but she hadn't cared he looked at her like a person as opposed to a problem that needed to be solved. She could feel the ache in her chest, and forced a smile for the sake of other's peace of mind. Annette wrapped herself around Everette's room, and Esther couldn't help but feel like she was intruding upon a family moment. She quietly rolled out of the room, and went back to her room to grieve in her own way. She needed to fix something. And she needed to do it fast.
