Esther had been awake for a very long time working on her newest project. She heard the whimpers of pain from three rooms over. She knew whose room that was. She practically threw her work to the side and rolled out of her room so fast she left skid marks. She flung open Everette's door and vaguely heard it smack against the wall. She saw Everette leaning over a book with his head in his arms with tears streamed down his face. He was sweating profusely. She slowly rolled into his room gently calling his name. She rolled over to his side and gently shook him awake through all the whimpering and crying.

"Esther?" He whispered, his voice scratchy from his soft cries. He curled up om himself in his chair, still shivering as he felt his back touch the cold of the chair. He had thought they would stop, he thought maybe the nightmares would let him sleep properly maybe for once. He glanced at the dim moonlight on his desk, and looked down at his own hands, cold and clammy. "I'm sorry for waking you."

"Shut up and stop feeling blue." Esther grumbled, pulled him off the chair onto her, and hugged him tightly. She grabbed his chin so that she could look into his eyes, "You listen to me, and listen well. Don't you dare apologize for something you can't control." She squeezed him tighter lightly brushing his tears away, "It's not your fault."

"I thought they would stop." He buried his face into her neck, hearing her slow heartbeat to calm his own deafening beat. They had always been to real for him, made him feel and see clearer sometimes then he did in the waking world. They had stopped when Esther came, but this one had depicted her instead of his father or mother. Her laying motionless, her and the sound of silence, no hearts heard in the room. It shook his core to see her pale skin grow paler, cold. He wrapped his arms around her, pushing her closer to him so he could feel her heart wherever they touched.

She stroked his hair gently rubbing circles on his back with her other hand. She whispered things he needed to hear to him, and held him for as long as he needed.

"Thank you Esther." He whispered as he slowly calmed down, his own heartbeat slowing to match hers.

"You don't need to thank me." Esther mumbled into his hair pressing a light kiss to his head.

But you are actually here...
"I suppose you are going to want an explanation?" His voice was still scratchy, but less horse as he pulled back from her, his eyes red and his hair flat from his own sweat.

"Not until you are ready." Esther replied lightly brushing his cheeks with her hands as a comforting gesture.

"I-" He looked down, memories of the vivid dream of a dead legless girl flashed in his mind. His voice dropped and he felt tears rise in his eyes again. He quickly began to hug her again, before his emotions could go south. "I don't know what I did to deserve someone like you."

She noticed he was going to cry again and held him tightly against her, "I won't leave you at least not without a fight." Esther whispered to Everette, "I promise."

"I'm afraid to leave you. " His arms tightened around her, the true reality or his predicament coming into the light. He was to graduate the academy within a year, and was expected to join the military within a few months if not a few weeks of that. He was afraid something would happen to her or to him while he served, and he could do nothing. He was terrified she would get hurt because he wasn't there, and while he definitely knew she was not defenseless, her predicament made her more than an easy target for most. Out of everything though, he was terrified somehow that she would dissappear in some way or form.

She only had one reply that she knew would help. She lightly leaned over his desk, and pulled out a pen. She gently unbuttoned the first three buttons of his shirt and drew on his chest gently. It read "I will always be here" in her nicest penmanship, and then she gently drew a scraggly heart where his would be and an arrow between the phrase and the heart. She sheepishly put the pen away and lightly kissed his cheeks of tears.

Everett stared at the markings on his chest for a solid minute, tears drying as he felt the heart beneath the pen beat faster. He looked up at the girl, whose blue eyes glimmers with a mix of curiosity, and admiration.
He adored her perfect blue eyes, in which the moonlight lit up every line in her irises. Her eyes that seemed to get a specific shine whenever he glanced in them. He loved her eyes, and the mind that lie behind them.
He gently placed his lips on hers, placing his hand on her jaw. He whispered between soft kisses.
"I love you, Esther. I promise I'll come back."

She was silent for a moment then struggled with her next words, "I love you too." Then she didn't struggle as much and said it as many times as it took to make a giant smile emerge upon Everette's face. She didn't have to say it too many times, "Come on we both need sleep." She lightly tugged him towards his bed.
