Flight: Antebellum

Everett had never been as proud of himself then he was in this moment. The people clapping, the salute his teachers had given him, and the promise of work had made his dream start it's own path. He felt suprisingly awake, on a rather usual day.

Not once had he woken up in tears or in his own sweat from his nightmares since Esther had decided to start sharing a room with him. She however, had gotten suprisingly used to the occasional sounds he made in his sleep that resembled singing, something only his mother had heard him do.

He was a little dissapointed to not see her wheeled up next to grandfather or his now four and six year old siblings, but he hoped maybe it was because the access to the building wasn't exactly wheelchair friendly.

He met his family, shaking hands with his grandfather and promptly picking up the two red headed monsters he called siblings before asking where she was. Grandfather said she was still at the house when they left, and so he excused himself to attempt to flee the large social event. He was rather quickly stopped however by a man in very neat uniform.

The man introduced himself as a officer in the intellegence sect of the military, and with a firm handshake stated that out of all of the men here Everett was the one he would like to see join the ranks of his sect. Everett complied, and stated that would fit him well. The man handed him a letter quietly as they shook hands, a rather secretive looking thing. Everett was told to not tell of his predicament to people he didn't trust, and was given the date of his possible boot camp before excusing himself once again. He needed to get out and find her, to tell her that he loved her, and to explain exactly how soon he would be leaving for the start of his boot camp.

He had less than two weeks left with her before he was to be shipped off to train with select few others for intelligence purposes.

He quickly escaped out the doors of the school, a large crowd of people in front of him, but stopped as he searched for the wheels of her chair next to the hundred of people.

"Esther?" He was considerably confused as to how she managed to jump scare him from behind, or even to get onto his back in general. He quickly whipped himself around and looked at the normal height she had been before realizing he was looking at the thigh level of some woman. He looked up at her shining face and gasped as the reality of the situation slapped him in the face. "You're- you're?"

He couldnt seem to manage the words out through his mouth so he instead practically tackled her with a giant hug one could only catagorize as pure joy.

"I can't believe this..." He smiled a stupid grin expanding the entirety of his face. The metal shined in the sun, "did you make them?"

"You're incredible!" He said, ignoring whatever formalities he usually observed, and leaned up to crash his lips against hers. Everett couldn't have been happier then he was with her, and he couldn't think of something that could make the day less perfect.

Everett vaugely heard a conversation nearby between two of his classmates. He made out the words of "I thought he didn't have fun," and, "how the hell did he get a pretty girl like that."

He was slightly amused.

"Of course," He said a wicked look I'm his eye. "Smith, Robinson, I'd like to introduce you to miss Esther Du Carmont."

The two boys who were both shorter than Everett stared up at Esther with just a hint of admiration and a lot of terror.

"Id live to stay and chat but I have something to show Miss Ducarmont." He smiled, grabbing her hand and promptly turning in the other dcuirection, standing tall and proper. He let out a small laugh when they were out of earshot, "Nice one."
