"Oh yes, only one of you needs to drop information, and both of you get out." He leaned in a bit when he cut the thread to start on a new wound. Smelling sharply of iron and cinnamon, with bleached white teeth and a flat kind of smile. "I'd say without a scratch, but we're beyond that point sweetling aren't we?"

"Leave em' alone," Harvey coughed quietly, using the most courage he could find in his weak self asurance. It was his fault for geting locked up here, for not being able to do anything to defend himself, so why should anyone else get punished. He felt another stab through a wound, and flinched only slightly. He felt so weak end exposed, like a caged animal. His eyes screamed at him to close, to send his body into sleep, but every word Emil said twisted his stomach into knots, scratching out any chance he had to rest.

"Nuh-uh-uh, we gotta stitch you up, can't have something so pretty left with scars, can we?" He cut the thread on another cut as a heavy tendril of smoke, hot and sour. "I can see why you get so much attention, Alfonzo the King of Slaves back in france, Sol's little blond bitch back in the air." A tight tug on a closing stitch sending a jolt of pain through the boy's nerves. "You are quite the cassanova aren't you?"

Harvey stared at Emil with an expression of both exhaustion and confusion. He wasn't some handsome stallion riding prince like those he had read about as a little kid, however much he wanted to be. He was, in the best way to describe himself in his current situation, a damsel in distress.
Harvey had never believed himself to look very nice, he was awkwardly tall and extremely lanky and weak. He had always assumed that people attacked him because of his appearance, or maybe because he wasn't very sociable, or even because his big sister would beat people up if she ever saw people being rude to him. He was certain that after this he would be rather unsightly to anyone who looked at him.

"Don't believe me? Well at least you have modesty on your side sweetling, there isn't much else they could be going after is there? I suppose it's a trade off. The pretty ones are always bland, painfully dull or silent and spineless, i'd say you fall under the last option, don't you agree, pretty boy?" Fingertips brushed his jaw, forcing eye contact while the other hand continued sewing blindly with a practiced ease. The gesture strangely intimate and frightening, sending a sharp feeling of nausea through the redhead.

Harvey shut his eyes, refusing to look at Emil. He didn't get it, he wasn't attractive, and had never thought once he was. He didn't get why Emil felt the need to point out the obvious. Of course he was boring, he was weak and the only damn thing he could ever do right was read. Tears that proved his opinions of himself right began to flow alowly from he corners of his eyes, washing a small layer of ash that had formed on his face away in streaks.
He didn't get why Jack had liked him.
The shutting of his eyes had started his process of shutting down. He lung limply from the hains at his wrists forcing him up, allowing the oain in his wrists to stay at a contant as he let them support his weight. Harvey was so tired, and he wanted to forget all of the pain he had, all o the tears and the dark smoky smell of the room. He wanted to forget everything he could so he could be ignorant and stupid and act like he couldn't understand every little cut he felt.
His body slowly shut off sending him into a very deep sleep.
Annette had curled up in a wooden chair beside Riley's bed, she watched the rise and fall of his chest as he slept more peacefully than she could imagine. The small farm they fled to had only a limited amount of beds, which were given to the injured or sick, leaving Annette and quite a few others without. She didn't care though, seeing as even if she wanted to she doubted shed be able to sleep now. A dark and murky feeling had made itself a home in her stomach, and she did't think she would be able to force it away without her little brother. She rested her nose on her knees and looked back at Riley's face, bandages reaching across his from above his eyebrow to below his eye on the other side. She stared at the bandages that mocked her, screaming how she could do nothing to protect the people she loved. In any normal situation Annette would have gotten so angry that she would have cried, but right now she felt empty.
Riley's eyes blinked open to a sun-lit room and a small ginger girl whose own eyes widened at his awakening. He began to sit up, yawning as he did, and removing the covers from his upper body.
"How long was I out." Riley grumbled, quite annoyed he happened to wake up when he still felt so tired.
"Too long." Annette replied, removing her face from her knees. Riley looked at her face, a hint of distress still hidden behind her eyes. Riley would have very easily made some shitty sarcastic comment like 'am I still pretty,' but her face gave a specific look that should not be messed around with. Annette wasn't very weak in her heart, for everything she had gone through, and when she gave an appearance like the blank one she wore he knew that there were fires tearing at her heart.
"Sorry," He said smiling lightly to her as he slowly stood up, checking to see if his blood had restored to normal levels that would make him not pass out. She too stood slowly seeming rather interested with the state of the floor.
A light knock was heard from the door, along with a response from Riley allowing the person entry. The door slowly opened to reveal Jack standing with bags under his eyes that Riley noted were very similar to Annettes.

"he's gone." The tiny voice of a slight form at the mouth of the room spoke up, "he's gone and so is everything else." He seemed to shrink even smaller, if at all possible. Everything he worked for, destroyed, his hope of atonement. There was a new bottle of ashes beside the one he kept, a chain around his neck looped through the cork in a makeshift locket, colored glass obscuring the contents. The ashes of his city, his people, his redemption, his heart.

"And you are going to get him back." She slit her eyes slightly. She would have taken pity on the young boy, but seeing as her little brother, half of her best friends face, her ship, and her goddamned arm had been taken from her within the last few months.
"Annette..." Riley tapped her hand, warning her to not upset him. She responded with her eyes, too clouded with anger to tell what she was honestly feeling.

"I didn't need you to tell me that." It was a harsh sound, his words, like someone pressing their bow too hard on their violin strings. "Everything that happens to my people is on my head, and that counts your brother." The door slammed behind him.

Annette began to walk toward the door, but a firm grasp at her wrist prevented her from having the last word of that argument. She opened her mouth in protestyet stopped as Riley opened his own.
"We're technically guests, Annette, and angering the one person who might help get him back could kick us out if he wanted to."
"But-"
"But he's upset too Annette, and maybe that was a bit too much."
"Are you telling me to apologize to the person who lost my little brother."
"No. But it would do everyone good."

"Let me call you sweetheart, I'm in love with you." It was sweet and high and piercing, somehow reaching into the room despite it's low volume, as though their ears had been straining for the sound. Calming and alluring like counting the freckles on the back of a hand.
"Let me hear you whisper that you love me too. Breaking into the silence like shattering glass, having a way of being heard through the noise even in it's softest pitch. Tracing hands, necks, arms, backs with the featherlight touch of lips, never too far down, chaste and soft and comfortable.
"Keep the love-light glowing in your eyes so true." Smooth and honest like a practiced confessional, like the words had been used so many times that they had worn a path into the grass below your feet but their meaning stayed as strong as the roots below. Legs entwined like fingers and hair and everything else that could entwine itself with another being. Becoming whole. Becoming complete.
And having it wrenched away.

Annette opened her mouth in protest, but was interrupted by a soft whisper from the green eyed boy. A few words Annette had to strain to even make out the tiniest parts.
"He must really like Harvey huh." Riley stared at the door with a glint of sadness in his eyes. Annette looked at him confused before remembering how she had felt without him. The sleepless nights she had spent alone and lost, until she met Riley. She remembered how she felt as she watched the metal woman bring him down to a heap bleeding onto the ground. She felt so scared, lost. She looked down at the floor as Riley looked back to her.
"I don't think I know how to apologize."
"No one really does, Annette. They just know they need to."
"You sound like my Grandfather."
He inspected her face for hints of her nightmares resurfacing, and when he found none, he smiled.

"What?"
"Nothing. Go before you make it worse."
"I'm no-"
"Just do it."
"Screw you."
"Only if you want to."
"Wha-"
Riley walked to the door and opened it, laughing quietly.
Annette walked to the door and punched him lightly in the stomach before walking through the door. She walked around for a short while before realizing she had absolutely no clue where Jack had gone.
This was going to be more difficult then she originally thought.

The sprawling design of the room, taking up such space she wondered vaugely how she'd never noticed it before. A sprawling room of dark woods and gold light and portraits of men and women she didn't recognize. A clatter and a sob caught her attention, turning to see the white head of hair sinking to the ground. Beside him was a canvas smeared with red and grey and flecks of brown. Voice gasping for air between sobs, head in his hands.
