Trying to catch his breath against his tall friend's shoulder, the words from the nect room over carried through the empty hall. Despair had never melted into rage so quickly. (If there was one thing he knew he could do...)
He'd ripped himself from his Dihiryn's grip and stalked to the doorway, ignoring the quiet suggestion to ignore it Damien offered up. (Because the man had the audacity to claim he had no place here when he'd left Harvey alone, probably hadn't spoken to him in months)

"Everett. People are allowed to be kind." Annette stared at him, her own anger welling in her face.
"I've noticed people like him don't generally without alterior motive." He said curtly.

The door slammed open like a gunshot. And in an instant the smaller man had planted himself a step away from the other, leaning forward with fury in his eyes. "And what gives you the right to make that call, you pretentious fuck?" His hands were in fists, shaking, "because you just spent so much time with him, just know him so bloody well."

"Like you're any different. You've known him a week? Doesn't sound like enough time to give a damn." The words spat from his mouth like tiny needles. He stared into the miscolored eyes with a cold stare with the heat of anger beginning to warm them.
Annette shot him a glance that could kill, but he felt he needed to say more.
His voice flattened, deepened with animosity, "Ready to move on to the next innocent boy?"

His jaw clenched. "Anyone who steps foot onto my land becomes my responsibility, though I'd understand that being a forgien concept for you."

"My family is my responsibility," his fist clenched as he held down any want to bring the boy toppling to the floor. "But you weren't responsible enough to watch after one person who needed you."

"And you were doing such a good job of that one, weren't you? How many times has your sister been stabbed now? Isn't the man responsible for Harvey's capture your subordinate? Your sister lost a bloody limb and you sat there in your posh little office like the bastard you are and told yourself there was nothing you could do."

Annette's breath hitched as the words came out of Jacks mouth. She knew he had gone too far.
"Don't tell me I don't care about my family." Everett grabbed the shorter boys collar, lifting it slightly. He would have preferred to slam him against the wall and beat him senseless.

"Then don't presume to know me based upon an erroneous file and ten minutes of observation." His knee came up hard between the other's legs, aiming to catch him off guard and free himself.

"Don't act like you know my family." Everett spat, concealing the pain that had shot up into his gut.
"Everett stop." Annette hissed at her older brother, he leaned against the wall and breathed for a minute, the anger he felt lessening at his sisters broken gaze. "It's not your fault and it's not his."

Jack's mouth opened as if to protest, fire still hot in his eyes, but a low "Arwr" from the dark man by the doorway stopped the words on the tip of his tongue.
So unfitting, Arwr, Hero, as if his behavior was at all deserving of the name. It sounded like a mockery. Dihiryn, Villian, somehow managing to be the sole grounded force in this flurry of emotion and anger and pleas for help to gods he'd never believed in. (Not since he saw the embers, a shade of red he'd never see again.)

"You owe him an apology." She looked at Everett, who looked thoroughly annoyed by her suggestion. "Whether it be now or later, you are his guest Everett."
"I heard yelling are you alright?" A tall head with brown hair and green eyes stuck his head in the door, but shriveled back with one glance from his redhead.
Annette had been told she was motherly, and that she acted strangely like her own mother, but she never believed such.

Jack scoffed, clearly still bitter, but knowing the argument wasn't going to be continued at this moment. "Whatever, I have several hundred people to find housing for, and whenever you want to get a jump on trying to find your brother, be my guest. I'm sure the Library's open for your use."

Everett sighed, recomposing himself. What he had just done was the most childish thing he had done since he had joined the military, and he was less than proud of himself. "Thank you."
"Here's the letter." Annette spoke, obviously annoyed with her older brother. She extended her hand to his with a letter with crumpled edges and barely ripped corners. Everett understood whoever read the letter was not happy reading it, and he was likely to have a similar reaction. "Let's go," She walked out of the room and Everett didn't dare to not follow.

"I'm sorry Annette." Everett tried to break the silence that did nothing to conceal his younger sisters anger. "I don't know what I was thinking-"
"Apologize to him. Let's just get our brother back."
"I just-" His words were met with a sharp hiss from his sister.
"He's worried just the same as us about him, Ev, he's been like that for a week. None of us are getting sleep, and I want him back, so let's do as much as we can and kick the bastards ass."
"I suppose."
