Everett sighed as he saw her quietly wheel out of the room. He put the lump of messy ginger hair back onto his bed, and asked the slightly neater girl to go play where she wouldn't wake him. He walked slowly down the hall, and quietly knocked on her door.

She figured he'd come looking for her just not this soon after she left, "Come in." She called as she pulled the magnifying head gear off of her head, and put her tools away.
"Something wrong?" She asked.

"I don't think I've ever watched you work before." He said casually, half because he was interested and half because he couldn't think of anything to say that would make her feel more like their family. The two youngest were certainly fond of her and the eldest perhaps too fond, and they all loved her company.

"You can watch if you like." She declared proud that he was interested in her work. She hated the thought of anyone watching her work but she would make the exception for Everette. She had him pull over a chair from across the room that she thought was relatively comfortable, pulled back on her magnifying headpiece, and unrolled her tools from their leather home. She began trying to unwedge the god forsaken tiny rock that was in between the gears of the toaster.
"How did they even get a rock into a toaster?" She asked with a laugh.

"They muse have took the toaster for granite." Everett said fluently, barely even hinting that he had made a play on words. Esther had looked up from her work and at the wall, and laid her tools on the table. Everett laughed a little at her reaction, causing a teeny bit of laughter from the girl.

"Silly boy," Esther muttered to herself in between laughter. Esther yanked the rock out of the gears with a pair of tweezers. She threw it to the other end of the room in triumph, and thrust her hands into the air happily. She profusely apologized for almost hitting him in the face with her hands. He swiftly replied by telling her that it was ok, and he insisted that he was "made of sterner stuff than a simple hand to the face can break". She laughed at that too. She thought he was funny. He made her laugh more than she had in years. She appreciated him even more for that. She also deemed the toaster fixed with the help of Everette.

"Have you ever been to the park a few blocks from here?" He asked, honestly wondering as he would thoroughly enjoy going anywhere or doing anything with the black haired beauty.
He had gone to that park many times when he was younger, and when Annette was very young, he would walk her around and teach her about the plants and colors. She would smile smile brightly and laugh and then wonder about the mechanical things people held or rode around the park.
The trees turned to very pretty colors as the sun would set on them. He remembered his mother and father walking him there with his tiny hands in theirs when his dad would come home from his most recent deployments. He had always remembered being happiest when he was in that park, especially with the people he loved.

"There's a park nearby?" She inquisited, "I guess I don't go out very much." Esther said quietly, and thought quite sadly that she doesn't go out very much. She doesn't go out much because of her disability. She didn't like the way some people looked at her. The girl with missing legs. She's willing to sacrifice her comfort for his. She knows that for a fact.
"I would be willing to go out if you liked. After all I have no more work for today." She said, and waited for a response.

"If you don't want to we don't have to, but it's easy to see the stars there." He said, sensing some reluctance in her voice. He wouldn't dare put her in a position that made her uncomfortable if he had any control over it. He thought of the promise she had made earlier and wanted to know when she was planning to fulfill that promise. After the plainly scandalous action he had done he was shocked he could be so relaxed around her, but it had been like that since he had met her.

"I would love to go out with you Everette." Esther exclaimed happily. She was a bit reluctant but believed that because she was with Everette she would be ok. She sneaked a peak at him from the corner of her eye, and was quite astounded to see him grinning like a little kid. He thought that she would say no. That was her massive revelation. She didn't realize that she was that hard to approach. She decided he needed peace of mind. She grabbed Everette by the chin, and pecked the kid on the cheek.
"You're great you know that." She told him.

"I do now." He said looking curiously at her lips then back at her eyes. The touch if her lips at his cheek sent his stomach into satisfying knots.

"What time are we leaving at?" Esther asked. She knew it would take her forever to decide what she would be wearing out so she needed to know if she should start soon.

"Well its four now, dinner's at five, so around seven?" He asked, glancing at the small watch at his wrist his gradfather had made for him, knowing when the sun would start to set on such a day in mid summer. The park was one of the only places in the city he had known where you could watch the sun set without too much of an obstruction as the tall buildings. He had only wanted to go to the park because he thought the girl might find it pretty compared to the enclosed house she spent most of her time in.
He knew how much the city changed at night, but he had been taking quite a few self defense and military hand to hand combat classes for a few years now, and happened to be at the top of his classes. He was modestly confident in his own abilities to defend, and he was sure that if someone were to attempt an attack on Esther he would not hold back.

"Sounds like a great idea." Esther said unrolling from her previous position. She didn't know what she would do to entertain herself for the next hour before dinner started, but she figured she would just roll with it.
Esther rolled directly upstairs after she ate dinner. She had been searching for something suitable to wear for an hour. She looked through her dresser, and didn't find anything. She only owned pants. That was a very unwelcome thought for this occasion. Esther found some fabric in the back of her wardrobe.
She remembered where she got the fabric from. The first time Grandpa Finley brought her out of the house after he took her in. That was where she got it from. He brought her to the market, and it immediately caught her eye. Of course she was too afraid to say anything about it, and was quite surprised when she received it as a Christmas gift. If Esther can recall correctly she was surprised that she was given anything at all.
She had been sewing for as long as she could remember. What were the prostitutes to do with a little girl with no legs? She had to contribute somehow so they taught her to sew. She was told that she picked it up quite quickly too. She used to sew the holes in the dock workers clothes when they visited the brothel. She hadn't minded they were always quite nice, and had paid her with spare change. She made the prostitutes their skirts. She also had sewn up a few wounds. Every once in awhile there was a rather aggressive brawl at the brothel. She still had to hem her own pants though. She had to fix the legs on them considering that she didn't have any. Anyway that's why she loved the fabric; It reminded her of better times in her first home. It was such a dark blue that it appeared black until you got closer, and saw the blue sheen. She had deemed this occasion worthy enough to use this fabric for.
So she made a skirt. It was a very long skirt with pleats. It covered her legs; that's all that mattered. She didn't want Everette to be subjected to being see with a cripple. She had Annette do her hair. Luckily little Red didn't ask too many questions. She was only curious about the skirt. Her hair was in a messy braid again Annette was very fond of this particular hairstyle, but it had to do. Esther had Annette roll her back into her room to clean up the mess of clothes she had made.

Everett had recently found himself spending quite a lot of time attempting to make himself look presentable, and had spent much more time on his own hair. He had found a specific look, in which he slicked back the smaller half of his left bound part. He found the slightly drawn back look to be both professional and a bit attractive on him, compared to the two original options of total wreck and super stiff. He had assembled a nicely matched three piece suit that he had only worn a few times seeing as the streets and academy didn't treat clothes quite well, and carefully made sure he looked at least acceptable.
He looked at the clock after doing so and found he had thirty minutes before he was supposed to reconnect with the girl, and sighed with a mix if frustration and anticipation. He decided to check on his little brother before heading to meet her, and promptly snuck out of his door and moved a few doors down. He quietly opened the door and peered in to find a fast asleep child that Everett could only assume was because they had recently eaten. Harvey slept quite a lot, a hell of a lot more than his sister ever did.
He checked his wristwatch and decided maybe it would be benificial to be a little early.
